Comedy star Jack Whitehall has today agreed to become a Patron of Olivia’s Vision charity supporting uveitis sufferers.
Jack, who first met 11 year-old Olivia and her parents, the trustees of Olivia’s Vision, at their recent Comedy Night fundraising event, saw for himself how the charity supports patients suffering from Uveitis, a little known but devastating inflammatory eye disease, which is the second leading cause of avoidable blindness in the UK.
Olivia’s Vision was set up by Nicki & Nick Davis following the diagnosis of their daughter, then aged 9, with chronic uveitis in both eyes in 2009.
Jack Whitehall explained: “I met Olivia and she’s such an inspiring little girl that I felt compelled to get involved.”
Nicki Davis added: “Discovering that your child is going blind from a disease you’ve never heard of is shocking. To then be told that there’s no cure is devastating. Olivia’s Vision was set up to provide support to others in this position, to raise funds for research and to train more uveitis experts. To have Jack’s support is wonderful and will do so much to bring attention to this destructive disease.”
